Tuesday daily cattle summary

Throughput at Toowoomba Elders declined 35%, to 592 head, but buyer attendance was good across all classes. Strong prices were mostly maintained on the lines of young cattle, and improved on quality, while grown cattle sold to a dearer trend.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers eased 11¢, averaging 316¢ and selling to a top of 332¢, while the same heifer lines improved 5¢, averaging 285¢/kg
- Medium C3 trade heifers jumped 31¢, averaging 307¢/kg
- C4 bullocks sold from 299¢ to 315¢, to average 314¢/kg
- Cows sold to a dearer trend, with medium weight 2 and 3 scores selling from 214¢ to 247¢/kg
Consignments at TRXL Tamworth lifted 34%, to 1,485 head, with large numbers of yearlings, in particular heifers, brought forward. Quality was good and competition was strong, with extra feedlot buyers joining the usual panel of buyers.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers eased 1¢, averaging 328¢ and selling to 334¢/kg
- Medium C3 yearling heifers to feed on increased 5¢, averaging 316¢, while lines to the trade improved 3¢, averaging 313¢/kg
- Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter jumped 26¢, averaging 317¢/kg
- Medium D3 cows improved 8¢, averaging 241¢/kg
Wagga yarded 3,655 head, up 31% week-on-week, and quality was quite good, with the bulk of the better finished trade cattle grass finished. Grown steers and bullocks were in excellent quality, with odd pens supplementary fed or crop finished. Restockers were active on light weight young cattle and feedlot competition was steady. The usual domestic processor buyers were present but not all export buyers were active or in attendance.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers improved 7¢, averaging 341¢, while the heavy lines eased 1¢, averaging 332¢/kg
- Medium C2 yearling feeder heifers improved 5¢, averaging 315¢/kg
- Heavy C3 grown steers improved 2¢, averaging 326¢ and selling to a top of 340¢/kg (or an estimated 630¢/kg cwt)
- Heavy D4 cows averaged 262¢, back 3¢/kg week-on-week
At the close of Monday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) finished at 591.25¢, back 0.75¢/kg cwt on where if settled last week
- Trade steers averaged 327¢, back 1¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers averaged 329¢/kg lwt, steady
- Medium steers averaged 310¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers averaged 312¢/kg lwt, steady
- Medium cows averaged 240¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
