Tuesday daily cattle summary

Throughput at Toowoomba Elders declined 28%, to 448 head, and a fair panel of buyers operated in a generally dearer market, underpinned by enthusiastic restocker demand.

  • Medium C3 yearling feeder steers were firm, at 303¢/kg
  • Light C2 yearling heifers to restockers lifted 16¢, averaging 275¢/kg
  • Heavy C4 grown steers improved 9¢, averaging 298¢/kg
  • Light D1 cows to processors gained 18¢, to average 187¢/kg

Consignments at TRLX Tamworth gained 18%, at 1,357 head, with yearlings making up the majority. Quality was generally good and a full field of buyers were operating.

  • Heavy C2 yearling feeder steers improved 12¢, averaging 312¢/kg
  • Medium C3 yearling heifers also to feed on jumped 20¢, averaging 301¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter improved 9¢, averaging 293¢/kg
  • Heavy D4 cows lifted 27¢, averaging 256¢ and selling to 265¢/kg

Wagga yarded 2,620 head, steady on last week. Quality was mixed, with a greater portion purchased by feedlots. Not all the regular buyers were present but there was additional export processor competition from northern NSW and Queensland in the cow market.

  • Heavy C2 yearling feeder steers eased 2¢, averaging 304¢/kg
  • Medium C2 yearling heifers to the same orders improved 8¢, averaging 288¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 grown steers eased 4¢, averaging 296¢/kg
  • Heavy D4 cows to processors lifted 16¢, averaging 250¢/kg

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 550.50¢, up 4.00¢/kg cwt on where it finished last week
  • Trade steers averaged 295¢/kg lwt, steady
  • Medium steers averaged 281¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers averaged 293¢/kg lwt, steady
  • Medium cows averaged 232¢, up 3¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers averaged 304¢, up 4/kg lwt
