Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at CTLX lifted 1% week-on-week, to 8,500 head, with plenty of well-finished trade and heavy weights on offer. Light weight store lambs were in short supply. Light weight 2 score lambs averaged 585¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs were up 36¢ on 611¢/kg cwt. Heavy 4 score lambs increased 47¢ on 610¢, while extra heavy 4 score lambs gained 60¢ and averaged 613¢/kg cwt. Sheep throughput was 2% higher, at 4,300 head, and it was a good quality yarding with Merinos best represented. Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were 28¢ dearer and averaged 435¢/kg cwt.

At Hamilton, the lamb offering declined 4%, to 5,531 head, and quality improved on the previous sale, with greater numbers of well-finished trade lambs on offer. Restocker enquiry was limited. Light weight 2 score lambs were up 25¢ on 627¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs lifted 42¢ on 643¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs increased 6¢ and averaged 606¢/kg cwt. Sheep consignments were back 38%, to 1,656 head, and there was an increased supply of light weight and plainer quality sheep. Medium weight 2 score crossbred ewes were up 14¢ and averaged 389¢/kg cwt.

At the close of Wednesday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 5¢ higher on 554¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs were up 7¢ on 552¢, while light lambs increased 5¢ on 568¢/kg cwt. Trade lambs gained 9¢ on 595¢, while heavy lambs climbed 5¢ on 598¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator was 6¢ dearer and finished on 401¢/kg cwt.
