Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Horsham increased 14%, to 8,727 head, with a large proportion of the yarding new season lambs. Most of the regular buyers attended, and the market trended dearer for the better covered trade and heavy weight lambs. Restockers were active.

Sheep throughput was down 22%, to 3,944 head, and quality was average to good, with all weights and grades on offer.

  • New season light weight 3 score lambs were back 16¢ on 534¢/kg cwt
  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs increased 19¢ on 546¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 3 score lambs lifted 25¢ on 549¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight crossbred 3 score ewes fell 32¢ and averaged 289¢/kg cwt

At CTLX, lamb numbers increased 18%, to 3,300 head, and there were some good pens of new season lambs throughout.

Sheep supply was 6% lower, at 1,700 head, and most grades sold to a cheaper trend.

  • New season light weight 2 score lambs to restock averaged 555¢/kg cwt
  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs lifted 5¢ on 538¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 515¢/kg cwt
  • Old season light weight 2 score Merino lambs averaged 461¢/kg cwt
  • Old season trade weight 3 score lambs increased 35¢ on 442¢/kg cwt
  • Old season heavy weight 4 score lambs slipped 53¢ on 468¢/kg cwt
  • Old season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 467¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were up 13¢ and averaged 307¢/kg cwt

 At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • The Eastern States Restocker Lamb Indicator was 7¢ higher on 568¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs were up 4¢ on 440¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs eased 3¢ on 487¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs increased 2¢ on 514¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs edged 1¢ higher on 508¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator was down 2¢ on 343¢/kg cwt
