Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb numbers at CTLX dropped 46% week-on-week to 9,500 head. Trade weight young lambs and secondary restocker lambs made up the majority of the yarding, although there were limited well finished young lambs on offer. Most of the usual buyers were present but not all were operating in a generally cheaper market.
Sheep consignments fell 61% week-on-week to 2,900 head, and quality was mostly plain. Restockers were active.
- Trade weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter gained 37¢ to average 483¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score young lambs were 515¢/kg cwt, up 13¢
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 30¢ to 548¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were back 36¢ averaging 228¢/kg cwt
Hamilton lamb throughput dropped 27% week-on-week to 37,932 head for the last sale of 2015, and quality ranged from plain to very good. There was an increased number of light lambs penned. The full field of buyers was in attendance but not fully operating.
- Light weight 2 score young lambs to restockers averaged 7¢ dearer on 512¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter increased 16¢ to 520¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 10 score young lambs to slaughter were 526¢/kg cwt, up 10¢
At the close of Wednesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator was on 516¢/kg cwt, up 5¢
- Merino lambs were on 402¢, down 12¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were on 478¢, back 5¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were on 511¢, up 3¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were on 529¢, up 5¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator finished on 264¢, down 3¢/kg cwt
