Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at CTLX were down 23% week-on-week, to 5,690 head, and it was a plain quality offering, with limited pens of well-finished new season lambs and heavy weight old season lambs.

Sheep throughput fell 4%, to 2,200 head, and most grades sold to a cheaper trend.

• Light weight 2 score Merino lambs lifted 30¢ and averaged 500¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score lambs were back 14¢ on 509¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score lambs gained 10¢ on 573¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were up 3¢ and averaged 329¢/kg cwt

At Horsham, lamb numbers were 52% higher, at 2,609 head, and while all the regular buyers attended, not all operated fully. There was an increased proportion of new season lambs offered, and trade weights presented in good condition.

Sheep supply was fairly steady, on 4,229 head, and consisted of some runs of heavy weight crossbred sheep and an increased number of recently shorn Merinos.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs averaged 582¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs averaged 590¢/kg cwt
• Old season light weight 2 score lambs fell 14¢ on 510¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score lambs slipped 48¢ and averaged 522¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score lambs declined 20¢ on 566¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes eased 16¢, and averaged 393¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lifted 1¢ on 546¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 5¢ on 524¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs increased 4¢ on 549¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were unchanged on 582¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs edged 1¢ higher on 586¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator slipped 6¢ and finished on 367¢/kg cwt
