Tasmania market summary

Cattle
There was a smaller yarding of trade and export cattle at Killafaddy and Powranna on Tuesday, with smaller cow numbers being the contributing factor. The very best trade cattle were firm while some averages were a few cents cheaper.
- Yearling steers sold for 280¢ to 340¢ and the heifers made from 276¢ to 332¢/kg.
- There were 27 grown steers and bullocks, with the steers making 292¢ to 308¢ and bullocks selling from 280¢ to 312¢/kg.
- There was a much smaller yarding of 59 cows, with more lean cows included. Most prices were 10¢ to 15¢ cheaper, with very lean D1 cows making 180¢ to 226¢ and D2 cows returning 220¢ to 240¢
- The few heavy beef cows sold from 238¢ to 252¢/kg
Sheep
There were small numbers of both lambs and mutton at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday. There were not as many heavy lambs and more trade weights, with many of these showing the effects of a cold winter. As the old lamb market comes to an end there are smaller lines coming into the market.
The lamb market was generally cheaper, with light trade and medium trade lambs most affected.
- Light export lambs made $81 to $90/head
- Light trade weights returned $91 to $107?head
- Trade types made $113 to $130/head
- Heavy weights sold from $139 to $152/head.
There was a mixed quality yarding of mutton.
- Most ewes sold from $68 to $78, while a few lines of bare shorn very light and light wethers made $44 to $59/head.
