Cattle
There were a similar number of trade and export cattle at Killafaddy and Powranna on Tuesday with only 30% being cows, the lowest percentage for many months, and a better quality run of yearlings. There was a mixed quality yarding of 51 cows and most met a much stronger market.
- Top quality trade yearlings sold to strong butcher competition with most steers making 280¢ to 336¢ and heifers 286¢ to 336¢/kg
- Restockers bought steers for 280¢ to 306¢/kg
- The few heavy export heifers made 290¢ to 310¢/kg
- Restockers bought very lean cows for 138¢ to 164¢/kg
- Exporters paid 190¢ to 220¢ for lean D1 cows, 232¢ to 256¢ for D2 cows and 248¢ to 290¢, to average 270¢/kg for heavy beef cows.
Sheep
There were very small numbers of lambs and mutton at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday, the smallest numbers this year. There are still no new season lambs coming forward and the old lamb season seems to be coming to a very quick close. The lamb market was much dearer but also erratic in places and most categories barely had enough lambs to get accurate quotes. There were very few heavy pens and many trade weights lacked finish.
- Exporters paid $78 to $94 for light lambs and $95 to $105/head for light trade pens.
- Trade lambs made $122 to $149 and heavy weights sold from $141 to $147/head.
- There were very small mutton numbers and medium weight ewes and wethers made $67 to $89/head.
