Cattle
There was a much smaller yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy, the smallest numbers for the year. The fact that one exporter is about to start a two week maintenance break, plus producers waiting for the spring growth to help finish their cattle, probably explained the small numbers. There were very few trade yearlings and 38 cows yarded and most met an easier market.
- Most trade yearlings made 285¢ to 326¢/kg
- Restockers bought most of the steers for 270¢ to 305¢/kg, or $945 to $1,314/head
- The few bullocks sold for 264¢ to 300¢/kg
- Heavy export heifers were 15¢ to 20¢ cheaper, selling from 268¢ to 286¢/kg
- Medium D1 cows made 194¢ to 206¢ and D2 types returned 216¢ to 234¢/kg
- Heavy D3 cows sold from 232¢ to 258¢, to average 249¢, 21¢/kg cheaper than last week's very strong sale
Sheep
There were very small lamb and sheep numbers at Powranna and Killafaddy as the old lamb season comes to an end and no new season lambs are coming to the market as yet. Mutton numbers have been limited for some weeks, as most of the culling was done during the winter. The lamb market was $10 to $15/head cheaper than last week's very strong sale, with the exception of a few extra heavy pens.
- Trade lambs sold from $107 to $134/head
- Heavy weights sold from $130 to $139 and extra heavy weights made from $143 to $152/head
- The very few mutton sold from $85 to $91/head
