Cattle

There was a much smaller yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy, but the mix was different, with only 40% being cows (down from close to 60% last week). Trade cattle averages continued to improve, with most 10¢ to 15¢/kg higher.

• Yearling steers made from 252¢ to 297¢ and heifers returned 250¢ to 292¢
• Restockers paid 258¢ to 295¢/kg for well-bred yearling steers

There were 64 cows yarded and these averages also improved 10¢ to 15¢/kg.

• Light and medium weight D1 cows made 190¢ to 212¢/kg
• D2 cows made from 232¢ to 244¢, while D3 pens returned 246¢ to 254¢/kg
• Good quality heavy beef cows made 250¢ to 264¢/kg

Sheep 

There was a larger yarding of lambs at Powranna and Killafaddy, with more store lambs included and fewer heavy lambs due to the effects of the cold season.

• Exporters purchased very light lambs for $51 to $66/head
• Restockers paid $66 to $102/head for light and light trade types, almost all of which were headed for the north-west coast
• Light trade lambs made from $100 to $105 and trade types sold from $118 to $138, with most averages $4 to $6/head cheaper
• Heavy lambs made $136 to $151, while extra heavy weights retuned $152 to $166, with most $3 to $5/head dearer.

It was another small yarding of mutton, with mostly light and medium weights available.

• Mutton prices were similar, with very light sheep making $35 to $52
• Light weights returned $58 to $68, and medium weights sold from $67 to $81/head
