Cattle

There was a much larger yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday with 60% being cows. The extra cow numbers accounted for much of the increase although there were a few more in all the other categories.

• Trade yearlings improved a further 10¢ to 20¢, with yearling steers making 278¢ to 305¢ and heifers 266¢ to 302¢/kg
• Restockers paid 272¢ to 300¢/kg for suitable steers
• The few grown steers and bullocks sold from 270¢ to 291¢, while heavy export heifers made 270¢ to 285¢/kg.

There was a much larger yarding of 250 cows and all met a very strong market with both local exporters plus a regular Victorian buyer competing strongly.

• Very poor E1 cows sold from 181¢ to 195¢, while medium weight D1 cows made 208¢ to 239¢ and D2 cows sold from 242¢ to 260¢/kg
• Heavy dairy cows made 224¢ to 234¢, while beef cows made 256¢ to 276¢, to average 267¢/kg

Sheep 

There was a smaller yarding of lambs at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday, with most of the drop being in light and store lambs. Most lambs averaged $5 to $6/head cheaper with the exception of the few extra heavy pens.

• Restockers bought very light lambs for $52 to $57 and better types for $71 to $111/head
• Light trade lambs made $90 to $110 and trade weights sold from $110 to $135/head
• Heavy weights made from $131 to $151, while extra heavy weights sold from $144 to $166/head

Light mutton was $4/head cheaper while most other sheep met a similar market.

• Very light ewes sold for $25 to $52, while light weights made $55 to $69/head
• Medium weights sold from $66 to $87 and a few heavy ewes sold from $90 to $95/head.
