Cattle
There was a smaller yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday with about 55% being cows. With a shortage of good quality trade cattle prices improved 20¢ to 30¢/kg to reach record levels.
Trade yearling steers sold for 220¢ to 279¢ and restockers paid 206¢ to 234¢/kg and yearling heifers sold from 216¢ to 270¢/kg.
There were only 25 grown steers, bullocks and heavy heifers and 92 cows yarded, all of which met strong competition. Most cows averaged 8¢ to 20¢/kg higher with many breaking through record prices.
Grown steers and bullocks made 208¢ to 249¢ and grown heifers returned 202¢ to 209¢/kg.
Restockers bought cows for 132¢ to 159¢/kg, or $439 to $685/head. Exporters purchased medium weight D1 cows for 128¢ to 166¢ and D2 cows for 162¢ to 170¢/kg. Heavy beef cows made 199¢ to 208¢, to average 206¢/kg.
Sheep
There was a smaller yarding of lambs at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday with not nearly as many store lambs as last week. Most prime lambs met a firm market.
Exporters paid $78 to $90 for light lambs, while restockers paid $85 to $115/head for light and light trade pens.
Exporters and wholesalers paid $88 to $105 for light trade lambs, $109 to $137 for trade pens, $130 to $150 for heavy and $145 to $153/head for the few extra heavy pens.
There was another small yarding of mutton and light sheep improved up to $10, while heavy ewes fell $10 to $15/head.
Very light ewes made $27 to $42, light weights sold from $68 to $72, medium weights $72 to $84 and heavy ewes made from $80 to $81/head.
