Cattle
There was a larger yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy with just over 50% being cows. The market for trade cattle was cheaper but all still sold to strong processor, butcher and restocker competition. Grown cattle and cow prices were all dearer with some reaching record high prices.
Yearling steers sold from 202¢ to 246¢ and heifers returned 200¢ to 238¢, while restockers paid 191¢ to 226¢ for steers and 188¢ to 218¢/kg for heifers.
There were 59 grown steers, bullocks and export heifers and the steers sold from 219¢ to 243¢, bullocks returned 205¢ to 243¢ and heavy heifers made 195¢ to 206¢/kg. There was a mixed yarding of 178 cows and with extra interstate competition all cows sold at higher prices with heavy beef cows averaging 20¢/kg higher. Restockers bought D1 cows for 100¢ to 130¢, while exporters paid from 158¢ to 196¢, averaging 177.8¢/kg for heavy pens.
Sheep
There was a smaller yarding of lambs at Powranna and Killafaddy, with very few heavy pens and another good selection of light and store lambs. Good quality trade lambs met a stronger market and in places were up to $10/head dearer, while most other lambs sold to a similar market. There was another small yarding of mutton and most prices were firm to $3/head dearer.
Exporters paid $50 to $81 for light lambs and $90 to $108/head for light trade types. Restockers bought light trade lambs for $91 to $107/head. Butchers and processors bought trade lambs for $113 to $134 and heavy pens sold for $125 to $143/head.
Very light sheep made $40 to $69, light weights returned $61 to $79, medium weights sold from $68 to $90 and heavy ewes were from $87 to $98/head.
