Cattle
There was another small yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday with some very good quality yearlings included. Competition was strong for good quality trade cattle.
- Yearling steers made 294¢ to 342¢ and heifers returned 288¢ to 344¢, to average 310¢/kg
There were small numbers of grown steers and heifers and a mixed yarding of 50 cows.
- Restockers paid 152¢ to 160¢ for light E1 cows
- Exporters paid 196¢ to 222¢ for lean medium weights and 228¢ to 231¢/kg for heavy beef cows
- Most cows were around 10¢/kg cheaper than a fortnight ago
Sheep
There was a similar number of lambs and more mutton at Powranna and Killafaddy on Tuesday. There were many more new season lambs making up about 30% of the total but competition was weaker, with limited export competition. Most old lambs were $8 to $10/head cheaper.
- Restockers bought new lambs for $81 to $104/head
- Trade pens made $110 to $119, heavy weights sold from $115 to $118 and extra heavy weights made from $111 to $130/head
- Exporters bought light old lambs for $75 to $87, while trade pens made $95 to $111 and heavy weights sold from $112 to $114/head
There was a larger yarding of mutton with more light sheep as the dry season starts to have an effect. Most sheep met a similar market.
- Very light ewes made $25 to $51 and medium weights sold from $55 to $84/head
