Steady month for sheepmeat to the Middle East

Australian sheepmeat exports to the Middle East were lower than last year during September, but given that last year was a particularly large volume, this was still a good result – especially as Australia’s global sheepmeat exports were down.
Lamb exports to Middle Eastern markets declined 4%, to 5,876 tonnes shipped weight (swt), with the largest change a 26% drop to Jordan, to 1,301 tonnes swt. Shipments to Kuwait were also lower, while Qatar (1,171 tonnes swt), Saudi Arabia (477 tonnes swt) and the UAE (1,615 tonnes swt) were all higher than last year.
Mutton shipments were lower to most markets compared with last year. Saudi Arabia – the largest individual market for mutton – was down 29%, to 1,082 tonnes swt, and the UAE slipped 17%, to 703 tonnes swt. The largest market to record an increase in trade was Oman, with a 60% jump, to 733 tonnes swt.
