Lambs

A larger yarding of 10,634 plainer quality crossbred and Merino lambs was penned at the SA Livestock Exchange.

The lambs sold to erratic competition provided by the usual group of trade and processor buyers. The sale started slowly before recovering as it progressed, however, except for a small percentage of the very best quality lambs available, prices eased. Feeders and restockers were only occasional participants.

• New seasons Merino lambs sold from $48 to $70/head
• Feeder buyers paid $86/head for a few light weight lambs
• Most 4 score light weight lambs to trade buyers sold from $100 to $134/head and returned 572¢ to 622¢/kg cwt
• Light weight old crossbreds eased $5, selling from $95 to $122/head, to average 506¢/kg cwt
• Light trade weight 3 scores eased marginally, making from $109 to $126/head and averaging 506¢/kg cwt
• Heavy trade weight 4 scores remained unchanged, selling from $122 to $150/head and averaging 542¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weights lifted $6, selling from $140 to $156/head, to average 561¢/kg cwt
• Extra heavy weights sold from $150 to $173/head.

Mutton

A very small yarding of 993 mixed sheep sold to easing processor demand.

• Light weight 2 score ewes sold from $45 to $92/head to average 300¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score ewes eased $5, selling from $86 to $100/head to average 323¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight wethers eased $8, selling from $82 to $112/head to average 322¢/kg cwt
• Rams sold from $60 to $97/head.
