SA weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Total SA lamb consignments, at MLA reported saleyards, lifted to 21,418 head, up 37% week-on-week.

  • The SA Livestock Exchange yarded a total of 15,445 head, up 33%
  • Numbers at Naracoorte jumped 48%, to 5,973 head

Light weight, 2 score new season lambs to restockers sold between 414¢ and 827¢ and were 7¢ dearer on 553¢/kg cwt. Light trade weight 3 score crossbreds to processors reached 520¢ and averaged 476¢, to be 38¢ cheaper, while heavier trade weights reached 532¢ and averaged 476¢, back 21¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter were 13¢ cheaper, selling from 426¢ to 539¢ and settling on 470¢/kg cwt.

Old Merino trade weights to processors sold from 330¢ to 460¢ and averaged 442¢, back 21¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Total mutton throughput increased a marginal 2% week-on-week, to offer 4,243 head.

  • Throughput at the SA Livestock Exchange declined by 6%, to 2,824 head
  • Consignments at Naracoorte reached 1,419 head, up 21%

Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes to processors eased 19¢, to 286¢, after reaching 330¢, while heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 284¢, back 12¢/kg cwt.

Heavy weight 3 score Merino wethers sold to processors for an average of 319¢, back 28¢/kg cwt.
