SA weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Lamb throughput eased 6% this week to 13,792 head. Both Naracoorte and SA Livestock Exchange recorded lower consignments. Numbers at SA Livestock Exchange dropped 2% to offer 12,290 head, while Naracoorte yarded 1,502 head, back 29%.

Light weight 2 score Merino lambs returned an average of 439¢, back 46¢ while those to slaughter were 12¢ dearer on 523¢/kg cwt. Trade weights 3 score Merino lambs slipped 2¢ to 483¢, while 3 score heavy weight Merinos were 6¢ cheaper, averaging 477¢/kg cwt. Trade weight 3 score lambs lost 20¢, on 523¢, while heavy weight 3 score lines were back 3¢, averaging 522¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Sheep supply lifted  28% week-on-week, to 3,323 head. Naracoorte jumped by 24% to pen 1,539 head and SA Livestock Exchange recorded an increase of 32%, offering 1,784 head.

Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes slipped 14¢ to average 306¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 scores eased 37¢ to 346¢, while heavy weight Merino ewes made 298¢, back 88¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight Merino wethers were also cheaper, easing 31¢ to 354¢/kg cwt.
