SA weekly sheep summary

Lambs

SA lamb supply reached 11,513 head this week.

  • SA Livestock Exchange penned 10,304 head, back 3%
  • 1,209 lambs were offered at Naracoorte

Light weight new season lambs to processors reached 700¢ and averaged 630¢, up 58¢/kg cwt. Lighter trade weight 4 scores were 9¢ cheaper on 613¢ and heavier trade weights gained 41¢ to average 607¢/kg cwt.

Light weight 2 score Merino lambs eased 22¢ to return 459¢ and trade weight Merino lambs averaged 481¢, back 25¢/kg cwt.

Heavy weight 3 score lambs to processors reached 578¢ and averaged 525¢, up 9¢ while similar Merinos gained 5¢ to average 481¢/kg cwt. 4 score heavy weights sold between 509¢ and 596¢ and averaged 559¢, up 17¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Total mutton numbers climbed to 2,685 head in SA this week.

  • Consignments at SA Livestock Exchange more than doubled week-on-week to 2,093 head
  • Naracoorte penned 592 head

Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes sold between 255¢ and 335¢ and averaged 304¢, back 35¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes eased 7¢ to 317¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight Merino wethers reached 377¢ and averaged 348¢, up 26¢/kg cwt.
