SA weekly sheep summary

Lamb
Total SA lamb consignments, at MLA reported saleyards, increased 4% week-on-week, to offer a total of 22,305 head.
- Throughput at SA Livestock Exchange eased 25%, to 11,545 head
- Numbers at Naracoorte lifted 80%, to 10,760 head
Restockers bought light weight 2 score new season lambs between 429¢ and 588¢, slipping 5¢, to average 549¢/kg cwt. Heavier light weight 3 score lambs sold to processors for a top of 547¢ and averaged 515¢, up 23¢/kg cwt. Light trade weight 3 score descriptions to the trade jumped 43¢, to 519¢ and heavier trade weights lifted 30¢, to 506¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight new season lambs to processors sold between 448¢ and 539¢ and averaged 494¢, to be 24¢/kg cwt dearer.
Old Merino heavy weight 3 score lambs were 1¢ dearer, averaging 421¢/kg cwt.
Mutton
Total mutton throughput jumped 30% week-on-week, to offer 5,529 head.
- Throughput at the SA Livestock Exchange was up by 11%, totalling 3,143 head
- Consignments at Naracoorte reached 2,386 head, up 68%
Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes eased 19¢, selling between 217¢ and 300¢ and averaging 265¢/kg cwt.
Heavy weight Merino wethers were also cheaper, back 23¢ week-on-week, averaging 295¢/kg cwt.
