SA weekly cattle summary

Numbers lift

SA cattle supply lifted by 9% week-on-week to offer 3,884 head.

  • Mount Gambier throughput reached 1,111 head, up 11%
  • Numbers at Mount Compass increased by 25% to 900 head
  • Naracoorte offered a reduced yarding of 1,253 head, back 17%
  • The SA Livestock Exchange consigned 620 head, up 80%

Cattle prices edge higher

Medium weight C2 vealer steers to feed reached 346¢ and averaged 339.4¢ while C3 grades to slaughter gained 6¢ to average 337.9¢/kg.C3 medium weight vealer heifers to slaughter averaged 327.5¢/kg.

Medium weight yearling C3 steers to feed gained 3¢ to average 304.3¢, while heavy weights to slaughter lifted 7¢ to average 325.3¢/kg. Processors bought medium weight yearling heifers for a top of 340¢ and an average of 317.9¢, up 7¢ and heavy weights for an average of 314.9¢, up 10¢/kg.

Medium weight C3 grown steers to processors remained firm on 320.8¢ while their grown heifer counterparts eased 5¢ to return 295.5¢/kg. D2 manufacturing steers gained 6¢ to average 269¢/kg.

D3 heavy weight cows to slaughter reached 287¢ and averaged 261.9¢ to be 8¢/kg cheaper.
