Numbers increase
MLA reported saleyards in SA recorded a 31% increase in total throughput week-on-week, with all selling centres recording a lift in numbers.
- Throughput at the SA Livestock Exchange more than doubled, reaching 1,090 head
- Consignments at Naracoorte lifted 18%, to offer 2,101 head
- Mt Gambier’s yarding jumped 31% to 1,730 head
- Mt Compass numbers experienced a lift of 14%, to offer 1,250 head
Older cattle prices ease
Pastoral calves weighing over 80kg reached 292¢ and averaged 275.2¢/kg. Restockers purchased C2 medium weight vealer steers between 296¢ and 339¢, easing 9¢ to return an average of 334.4¢/kg. Heavy weight C3 vealer steers to slaughter were 3¢ dearer on 335.9¢/kg. Similar vealer heifers also to slaughter reached 350¢ and averaged 329.5¢, up 5¢/kg.
Yearling steers in the C3 heavy weight category eased 3¢, averaging 314.2¢ while heifers were back by 1¢, averaging 311.4¢/kg.
Heavy weight C3 grown steers to processors made from 290¢ to 325¢ and averaged 314.4¢, back 9¢ while C4 grades eased 10¢ to average 321.1¢/kg. Grown D2 heifers in the medium weight range to slaughter jumped 18¢ to 269.3¢ while C3 heavy weights eased 9¢ to 298.4¢/kg.
D2 and D3 heavy weight cows to the trade slipped 6¢ and 3¢ to average 242.4¢ and 257.7¢/kg, respectively.
