Throughput slips
MLA reported saleyards in SA recorded a total throughput of 5,364 head, down 13% week-on-week due to the long weekend, with no sale being held at SA Livestock Exchange.
- Consignments at Naracoorte lifted 12%, to offer 2,363 head
- Mt Gambier’s yarding increased 7% to 1,851 head
- Mt Compass numbers decreased 8%, to offer 1,150 head
Prices ease
Light C3 vealer steers to slaughter slipped 12¢ to average 324¢, while light C3 vealer heifers were also cheaper, falling 2¢ to average 314¢/kg.
Light C2 yearling steers sold between 240¢ and 313¢, at an average of 279¢, while heavier C3 yearling steers to slaughter decreased 12¢ to average 302¢/kg. The C3 medium yearling heifers sold to slaughter at a high of 318¢, averaging 287¢, to be down 10¢kg. Heavy C3 yearling heifers fell 26¢ to average 285¢/kg.
Heavy C3 grown steers sold between 278¢ and 314¢ and settled on an average of 299¢, down 17¢, while grown light C3 heifers sold to 302¢ and averaged 285¢/kg. Medium C3 grown heifers averaged 273¢, down 25¢/kg. D2 manufacturing steers averaged 243¢, up 3¢/kg.
Heavy D2 cows sold between 170¢ and 236¢, to average 218¢, down 25¢, while D3 heavy cows averaged 243¢ and also eased, down 14¢/kg.
