Throughput remains steady

Despite the recommencement of the full working week, MLA reported saleyards in SA recorded only a jump of 1% in throughput, with 5,429 head yarded.

• Consignments at Naracoorte declined 29%, to 1,680 head
• Mt Gambier’s yarding slipped 10%, to offer 1,668 head
• Mt Compass numbers edged upward by 4%, to consign 1,200 head
• The SA Livestock Exchange yarded 881 head

Prices slip

Heavy weight C3 vealer steers to slaughter slipped 29¢, selling to a top of 322¢ before settling on 295.2¢, while vealer heifers reached 307¢ and averaged 273.8¢, back 32¢/kg.

Heavy weight C3 yearling steers to processors were 28¢ cheaper on 274.1¢, while those to feeder buyers eased 13¢, averaging 280.6¢/kg. Medium weight C3 yearling heifers sold to slaughter between 225¢ and 300¢ and averaged 261.1¢, to be back 26¢, while heavy weights settled on 250.5¢, back 35¢/kg.

Heavy weight C3 grown steers to slaughter were back by 37¢, averaging 262.6¢ and bullocks returned 261¢, to be back 33¢/kg. Processors bought C3 light weight grown heifers between 202¢ and 266¢, to average 251¢, back 34¢/kg. Medium weight manufacturing steers sold to a top of 221.9¢/kg.

Heavy weight D3 and D4 cows to processors returned 195.7¢ and 228.6¢, back 48¢ and 10¢/kg, respectively.
