Consignments slip
Cattle consignments decreased week-on-week by 25%, with numbers reaching 2,288 head. The yarding halved in size at the SA Livestock Exchange to 326 head. Throughput at Naracoorte slipped by 36% to offer 560 head and 522 head were yarded at Mount Gambier, representing a 17% decline. Mount Compass recorded a 2% slip in supply, offering 880 head.
Female cattle prices ease
Most C2 vealer steers and heifer to feeder orders gained 31¢ and 25¢ to return 291.5¢ and 276¢/kg, respectively. Most C3 yearling steers to slaughter lifted 20¢ in price to 300.5¢, while the heifer portion were 13¢ dearer on 287.2¢/kg.
Heavy weight C3 grown steers to slaughter were 7¢ dearer, averaging 288¢/kg. Light weight grown C3 heifers to slaughter returned 269.2¢, up 9¢, while heavy weights also to slaughter gained 4¢ to average 262.5¢/kg. Heavy D3 cows to processors were 12¢ dearer and returned an average of 228.3¢/kg.
