Throughput lifts
Cattle consignments lifted by 48% week-on-week to 4,648 head. Mount Gambier and Naracoorte both lifted by 61% to yard 1,257 head and 1,851 head, respectively. SA Livestock Exchange offered 540 head, up 53% and numbers at Mount Compass reached 1,000 head, up 18%.
Cattle prices ease
Medium weight C2 vealer steers to feeders eased 9¢ to average 288¢/kg. C3 heavy weights to slaughter reached 348¢ and averaged 315¢, to be 2¢/kg cheaper. Medium weight C2 vealer heifers to restockers remained firm, returning an average of 274¢ while the heavy weight C3 portion was back 9¢ to 307¢/kg.
Medium weight C2 yearling steers to feeders were 9¢ cheaper on 285¢, while the C3 portion to slaughter gained 3¢ to return 303.7¢/kg. Heavy weight C3 yearling steers to processors reached 342¢ and averaged 300.8¢, up 2¢, and their heifer equivalents gained 11¢ to return 292.3¢/kg. Medium weight C2 yearling heifers to feed were 1¢ dearer on 260.1¢ and the C3 portion to slaughter were 3¢ cheaper on 289.3¢/kg.
Heavy weight C3 grown steers to processors reached 332¢ and averaged 303.6¢ to be 11¢/kg dearer. Medium weight C3 grown heifers to slaughter slipped 7¢, to average 265.2¢/kg. Heavy cows to processors in the D3 category eased 2¢ to return 237.1¢/kg.
