SA weekly cattle summary

Numbers solid
There were 3,452 head offered across the state this week.
- Throughput at Mount Gambier increased 30%, to 1,118 head
- Numbers at Mount Compass were up by 7%, at 800 head
- There were 1,044 head offered at Naracoorte
- The SA Livestock Exchange yarded 490 head, back 46%
Grown cattle trend dearer
Heavy weight C3 vealer steers to slaughter reached 335¢ and averaged 317¢, while lighter descriptions returned an average of 317¢/kg. The heavy weight C3 vealer heifers to processors were 19¢ cheaper, at 310¢/kg.
Heavy weight C3 yearling steers to slaughter sold between 283¢ and 348¢, averaging 318¢, back 2¢/kg. Their heifer counterparts reached 336¢ and averaged 313¢, up 8¢/kg week-on-week.
Bullocks to processors were 14¢ dearer, on 327¢, while light weight C3 grown heifers returned 312¢, up 24¢/kg. Medium D2 manufacturing steers were up 4¢, at 274¢/kg.
Heavy weight C3 cows to slaughter were 10¢ dearer, returning an average of 261¢, while D2 descriptions were 15¢ dearer, at 236.3¢/kg.
