Throughput slips

A total of 3,090 head was yarded across the state, back 11% week-on-week.

• Throughput at Mount Gambier slipped  13%, to 970 head
• Numbers at Mount Compass lifted by 4% to offer 830 head
• Naracoorte yarded 830 head, back 21%
• The SA Livestock Exchange consigned 460 head, back 6%

Slaughter cattle prices lift

Medium weight C2 vealer steers reached 330¢ and averaged 318.2¢, up 1¢, while heavy weight C3’s to slaughter were 17¢ dearer on 334.5¢/kg. Medium weight C2 vealer heifers to feed returned 272.6¢, back 24¢, while heavy C3 descriptions were 18¢ dearer, on 327.2¢/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold between 272¢ and 330¢ and averaged 309.8¢, back 1¢/kg. Heavy C3’s to slaughter gained 19¢ and averaged 337.5¢/kg. The medium and heavy weight C3 yearling heifers to processors returned 312.9¢ and 317.4¢, up 7¢ and 4¢/kg, respectively.

Heavy grown steers were 17¢ dearer, on 336.1¢, while light C3 grown heifers reached 328¢ and averaged 310.9¢, back 1¢/kg.

Heavy D3 cows to slaughter sold at an average price of 276¢, to be 31¢ dearer compared to last week.
