Supply eases

Cattle throughput across the state eased 17% week-on-week, totalling 2,310 head.

• Numbers yarded at Mount Gambier slipped by 36%, to 810 head
• Mount Compass was back 10%, with 900 head of cattle penned
• The SA Livestock Exchange saw consignments lift by 11%, to 600 head.

Grown cattle market strengthens

Medium weight C3 vealer steers to processors eased 4¢, to average 316.6¢, while the heifer counterparts gained 28¢ and averaged 330.3¢/kg. Medium C2 vealer heifers to feed returned vendors 287.2¢, up 5¢/kg on the previous sale.

Medium weight C2 yearling feeder steers were 12¢ dearer, on 291.7¢, and heavy weights to slaughter lifted 17¢, averaging 318¢/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed gained 28¢, returning 287.7¢, while heavy weight C3’s to slaughter were firm on 291¢/kg.

Heavy weight C3 grown steers to processors reached 320¢ and averaged 305.3¢, up 12¢, while the grown heifer portion jumped 22¢ and returned an average of 286.7¢/kg. Heavy D2 manufacturing steers lifted 26¢ to 255¢/kg.

Heavy C3 cows to slaughter reached 245¢ and returned an average 240.1¢/kg. The D4 heavy weights were 7¢ dearer, averaging 224.5¢/kg.
