SA weekly cattle summary

Numbers lift

SA cattle supply lifted by 4% week-on-week to offer 4,044 head.

  • Mount Gambier throughput reached 1,239 head, up 12%
  • Numbers at Mount Compass lifted by 6% to 950 head
  • Naracoorte yarded 1,375 head, up 10%
  • The SA Livestock Exchange eased 23%, to 480 head

Prices edge higher

Medium weight C3 vealer steers to the trade eased 12¢, to average 326.1¢, while heavy weight vealer heifers slipped 6¢ to 324.7¢/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feeders lifted 7¢ to 315.3¢, while those to slaughter reached 345¢ and averaged 315.6¢, back 5¢/kg. Heavy weight C3’s to slaughter also eased 5¢, to average 319.9¢/kg. Medium weight C3 yearling heifers were 9¢ cheaper on 308.9¢, while heavy weights lifted 1¢ to 316¢/kg.

Medium weight C3 grown steers to slaughter returned 330.4¢, up 10¢, while heavy weights lifted 11¢ and averaged 306.6¢/kg. Light weight C3 grown heifers were 11¢ dearer week-on-week, on 306.6¢/kg.

The D2 heavy weight cows to processors eased 1¢ to averaged 235.4¢, while D3 lines gained 8¢, on 270¢, and the D4’s finished 5¢ higher, on 272.6¢/kg.
