Prices ease as yardings lift

Eastern states lamb supply, reported by MLA’s National Livestock Reporting Service, jumped 45% week-on-week, to 146,449 head, after last week’s cold weather.  The wintery conditions have impacted on quality and, as a result, secondary lines sold cheaper.

At the conclusion of Thursdays markets;

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 21¢ lower week-on-week, on 499¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs lost 13¢ to settle on 525¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were 16¢ cheaper on 533¢/kg cwt
• The Eastern States Trade Lamb Indicator (ESTLI) decreased 16¢ to 577¢/kg cwt
• The heavy lamb indicator eased 15¢ to 578¢/kg cwt.

Eastern states mutton yardings lifted 26% week-on-week, to 49,024 head. The higher numbers across all states resulted in the mutton indicator edging 9¢ lower on 384¢/kg cwt.
