NSW weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Lamb consignments throughout NSW increased by 3%, week-on-week, for a total of 122,603 head.

• Dubbo slipped by 13% for a total of 35,420 head
• Tamworth eased by 15% for 3,400 lambs
• Forbes gained another 14% and penned 35,769 head
• CTLX lifted by 4% to total 7,400 lambs
• Wagga slipped by 4% and penned 22,000 head
• Corowa lost 20% compared to last week and totalled 8,495 lambs
• Cootamundra continued its fortnightly market to offer 6,300 head

New season trade weight lambs sold firm to $3 cheaper, making from $111 to $156/head, or an average price from 590¢ to 597¢/kg cwt.

Trade weight older lambs slipped $2, ranging from $95 to $147/head and attained an average price from 562¢ to 580¢/kg cwt.

The heavy weight lambs eased from $2 to $4, to sell from $134 to $200/head, or an average price from 569¢ to 598¢/kg cwt. The best of the heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $134 to $152/head and averaged around the 550¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Sheep numbers increased by 11%, week-on-week, for a total of 29,361 head.

• Dubbo penned 7,270 sheep, as Tamworth offered 800 head
• CTLX yarded 2,300 head, while Forbes penned 5,530 sheep
• Wagga consigned 7,000 head, with Corowa offering 3,029 sheep
• Cootamundra penned 2,300 head

Sheep averaged close to firm, with the medium and heavy weights selling from $68 to $152/head, or an estimated average for the better finished end of 359¢ to 411¢/kg cwt.
