NSW weekly sheep summary

Lambs
Lamb consignments throughout NSW reported markets increased by 13% week-on-week, for a total of 93,559 head. Dubbo slipped by 23%, at 19,420 lambs, as Tamworth lost 25% and penned 3,675 head. Forbes increased its yarding by 41%, to 28,563 head, while CTLX penned similar numbers for a total of 8,500 lambs. Wagga increased by 33%, to 30,000 head, while Inverell continued its fortnightly market and penned 3,401 lambs.
New season lambs are starting to enter the competition and prices for the trade weights ranged from $136 to $160/head, or an average price from 607¢ to 634¢/kg cwt. Trade weight older lambs trended $2 to $6 dearer, as prices averaged from $119 to $143, with the best at $157/head, or an average price from 577¢ to 604¢/kg cwt. The heavier weights lifted $2 to $5, making from $135 to $208/head, or an average from 580¢ to 602¢/kg cwt. The best of the heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $152 to $163/head, or an average price around the 582¢/kg cwt range.
Mutton
Sheep numbers slipped by 17% week-on-week, for a total of 25,979 head. Dubbo along with Tamworth offered 4,360 and 1,850 sheep, respectively, as CTLX yarded 4,300 head, while Forbes penned 4,069 sheep. Wagga consigned 10,000 head, as Inverell offered 1,400 sheep.
Dearer trends were evident throughout the sheep categories, with the medium and heavy weights lifting $2 to $5/head. Prices ranged from $65 to $146/head, as the 2 to 4 score sheep averaged from 393¢ to 458¢/kg cwt.
