NSW weekly sheep summary

Lambs
Lamb consignments throughout NSW increased by 14% week-on-week, for a total of 109,307 head. Dubbo and Tamworth lifted by 3% at 20,115 lambs and 3,825 head, respectively, as Forbes increased its yarding by 15% to record 33,677 lambs. CTLX penned an extra 21%, with a yarding of 10,900 head, while Wagga increased by 14% at 35,000 head. Cootamundra continued its fortnightly market and penned 5,790 lambs.
New season lambs continue to enter the competition and prices for the trade weights ranged from $124 to $156/head, or an average price from 598¢ to 658¢/kg cwt. Trade weight older lambs sold close to firm, as prices averaged from $129 to $136, with the best at $159/head, or an average price from 576¢ to 602¢/kg cwt. The heavier weights lifted $2, making from $130 to $208/head, or an average from 572¢ to 611¢/kg cwt. The best of the heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $144 to $184/head, and attained an average price from 576¢ to 602¢/kg cwt.
Mutton
Sheep numbers increased by 14% week-on-week, for a total of 30,448 head. Dubbo penned 5,245 sheep, as Tamworth offered 2,250 head. CTLX yarded 3,200 head, while Forbes penned 4,473 sheep. Wagga consigned 11,000 head, with Cootamundra offering 4,280 sheep.
Prices remained buoyant throughout most of the sheep categories, with the medium and heavy weights selling close to firm. Prices ranged from $62 to $155/head, as the 2 to 4 score sheep averaged from 393¢ to 439¢/kg cwt.
