Cattle numbers increase
Cattle consignments in NSW lifted by 5%, week-on-week, for a total of 26,117 head.
- Wagga slipped 19% and yarded 2,780 head, as Tamworth increased by 33% to total 2,186 cattle
- CTLX decreased by 22% for a total of 2,000 head, while Scone lifted by 10% to total 1,390 cattle
- Inverell lost 17% of its total to pen 1,375 cattle
- Gunnedah increased by 34% for 3,200 head
- Singleton lifted by 6% to total 976 head, with Armidale halving its numbers at 320 head
- Forbes lifted by 6% for 1,795 cattle, while Moss Vale increased by 7% and offered 1,099 head
- Casino gained 6% to total 1,818 head, as Dubbo gained an extra 3% totalling 6,300 cattle
- Finley penned 878 head at its fortnightly market
Prices struggle to remain firm
The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 7¢ cheaper, making from 257¢ to 340¢/kg. The vealer heifers trended marginally lower in price to sell from 250¢ to 312¢/kg.
The medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders sold close to firm, to average 319¢ to 323¢, as the best reached 345¢/kg. The bulk of the unfinished yearling heifers trended 7¢ cheaper, with prices around the 288¢ to 300¢/kg range. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers remained firm to 5¢ cheaper, with the best reaching 359¢/kg.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter trended firm to 3¢ lower, with the bulk up around the 296¢ to 324¢ range, while the best topped at 361¢/kg. The plainer cows sold 3¢ cheaper, as the 2 scores averaged 214¢/kg. The better finished heavier weights slipped 1¢ to 3¢ to range from 205¢ to 295¢, while heavy weight bulls reached 313¢/kg.
