Cattle numbers decrease
Cattle consignments in NSW slipped by 7%, week-on-week, for a total of 18,187 head. Wagga slipped by 33% and yarded 3,750 cattle, as Forbes offered 1,410 head, with Tamworth nearly halving its total at 1,217 cattle. CTLX slipped 24%, at 2,286 head, as Gunnedah added 11% and yarded 1,230 cattle. Inverell increased by 12%, for 856 head, while Scone slipped 21%, with 895 cattle. Singleton penned an extra 6% for a total of 865 head, with Armidale nearly doubling its total to pen 1,240 cattle. Casino lifted 15% and offered 1,688 head, as Dubbo yarded 2,750 cattle.
Prices improve
The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock gained 9¢, as prices averaged 286¢, with the tops at 319¢/kg. The vealer heifers ranged from 210¢ to 274¢, an increase of 5¢/kg compared to the last market.
The medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders trended 11¢ dearer, as prices ranged from 210¢ to 325¢, with the best heavy weight topping at 327¢/kg. The medium weight yearling heifers to the lot feeder orders lifted 10¢, with the majority around the 273¢/kg range. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers gained from 8¢ to 17¢, as the best heavy weight yearling steers topped at 325¢/kg.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter improved 15¢, making from 228¢ to 320¢/kg. Cows averaged from 11¢ to 15¢ dearer, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 182¢, with the better finished 3 and 4 scores selling from 176¢ to 244¢/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 280¢/kg.
