Cattle numbers lift
Cattle consignments in NSW increased by 21% week-on-week, for a total of 28,080 head. Wagga lifted by 19% and yarded 5,425 cattle and Forbes increased 42% to 1,940 head. Tamworth gained 38% and penned 1,595 head and CTLX increased by 42% to 4,350 head. Gunnedah added another 35% week-on-week, to yard 2,810 cattle, while Inverell increased by 28%, for 1,580 head. Scone lifted 13% to 1,523 cattle, while Singleton slipped 13%, for a total of 620 head. Armidale penned 25% fewer cattle, for 970 head, while Casino slipped 19% and penned 1,185 cattle. Dubbo lifted 2%, to yard 3,550 head, Moss vale increased 9%, to total 1,594 cattle and Finley offered 835 head.
Prices remain firm to dearer
The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 8¢ cheaper, as prices averaged 288¢, with the best at 334¢/kg. The vealer heifers remained firm to 4¢ dearer at, 224¢ to 298¢/kg. The medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders remained firm to 5¢ dearer, depending on finish, as prices averaged from 312¢ to 316¢ after reaching 332¢/kg. The medium weight yearling heifers to the lot feeder orders remained firm to 5¢ cheaper, with the majority around the 281¢ to 295¢/kg range. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers maintained solid prices, with ample numbers selling up in the 330¢/kg range.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter sold around the 285¢ to 310¢, with the best at 344¢/kg. Cows averaged from 6¢ to 14¢ dearer, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 204¢, with the majority of the better finished 3 and 4 scores selling from 216¢ to 246¢, after topping at 260¢/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 286¢/kg.
