Cattle numbers slip

Cattle consignments in NSW eased by 11%, week-on-week, for a total of 22,014 head.

• Wagga lost 26% and penned 3,365 head
• Tamworth eased 12%, to offer 1,164 cattle
• CTLX penned similar numbers at 3,310 head
• Scone slipped by 34%, to total 981 cattle
• Inverell lost 32% and Gunnedah slipped 26%, for 1,480 and 1,790 head respectively, while Singleton eased 24% to total 635 head
• Armidale penned 468 head, compared to Forbes at 1,328 cattle, while Moss Vale eased 8% and offered 1,247 head
• Casino lost 25% at 1,746 head
• Dubbo went against the lower trends and lifted its total by 20% for 4,500 cattle.

Prices remain buoyant

The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 12c dearer, as prices averaged 305c, with the best at 340c/kg. The vealer heifers lifted 4c to 6c, making from 240c to 295c/kg.

The medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders sold 4c dearer, to average 318c to 323c, as the best reached 341c/kg. The majority of the unfinished yearling heifers trended 2c/kg cheaper. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butcher orders continue to sell at record levels, with the best heavy weight vealer topping at 357c/kg.

The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter trended dearer, with prices averaging from 309c to 326c, while the best topped at 346c/kg.

The plainer cows sold 2c dearer, as the better covered heavy weights gained as much as 15c/kg. The 2 scores averaged 207c, with the 3 and 4 scores ranging from 220c to 281c/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 294c/kg.
