Cattle numbers increase
Cattle consignments in NSW lifted 7% week-on-week, for a total of 24,560 head.
- Wagga maintained similar numbers, at 3,445 head, while Tamworth slipped 13%, to total 1,454 cattle
- CTLX increased by 6%, for a total of 2,570 head, while Scone lifted by 34%, at 1,243 cattle
- Inverell added another 27% to its total, at 1,660 head, and Gunnedah increased by 24%, to 2,110 head
- Singleton lifted by 17%, to total 910 head, while Armidale penned 709 head
- Forbes penned similar numbers, at 1,679 cattle, while Moss Vale increased by 20% and offered 1,020 head
- Casino decreased by 15%, to total 1,700 head, while Dubbo gained an extra 14%, for 6,060 cattle
Prices remain strong
The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged close to firm, making from 270c to 340c/kg. The vealer heifers remained firm to 10c dearer, selling from 240c to 329c/kg.
The medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the lotfeeder orders sold 2c dearer, averaging 320c to 322c, and the best reached 345c/kg. The bulk of the unfinished yearling heifers trended close to firm, with prices around the 294c to 297c/kg range. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers continued to sell at record levels, with the best reaching 364c/kg.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter trended 2c to 7c cheaper, with the bulk up around the 320c to 330c range, while the best topped at 367c/kg. The plainer cows sold 6c dearer and the 2 scores averaged 216c/kg. The better finished heavier weights slipped 5c, to range from 230c to 299.6c, while heavy weight bulls reached 306c/kg.
