Cattle numbers slip
Cattle consignments in NSW slipped by 31%, week-on-week, for a total of 19,293 head.
- Wagga and Forbes both decreased their yarding by 36%, to 3,470 and 1,235 head, respectively.
- Tamworth eased 19% and penned 1,287 cattle
- CTLX and Scone more than halved their totals, to yard 1,670 and 692 head, respectively.
- Singleton increased by 28%, for 870 cattle penned
- Gunnedah halved its consignments, to 1,165 head, while Inverell slipped by 26%, at 1,156 head
- Armidale and Casino went against the trend, as Armidale increased by 16%, to pen 1,162 cattle, while Casino doubled its numbers, at 2,423 head
- Dubbo lost 30% and penned 2,520 head
- Moss Vale remained steady week-on-week, with 1,641 cattle yarded
Prices continue to lift
Medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 12¢ dearer, as prices averaged 299¢, with the best at 332¢/kg. Vealer heifers lifted by 4¢ to 7¢, ranging from 240¢ to 334¢/kg.
Medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders lifted 3¢, to average 314¢, as the best heavy weights to the same orders topped at 334¢/kg. The medium weight yearling heifers to the lot feeder orders gained 5¢, with prices averaging 286¢, with the best up around the 307¢/kg range.
Prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers continued to sell at buoyant prices, with a large amount selling up in the 330¢/kg range.
Heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter trended dearer, with prices ranging from 240¢ to 346¢, while the heifer portion gained 2¢ to 5¢ and topped at 313¢/kg.
Cows trended 2¢ to 7¢ dearer, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 206¢, with the 3 and 4 scores ranging from 191¢ to 266¢/kg.
Heavy weight bulls reached 284c/kg.
