Cattle numbers increase
Cattle consignments in NSW lifted by 22%, week-on-week, for a total of 24,813 head.
- Wagga gained 24% and penned 4,600 head, as Tamworth lifted 3% to offer 1,330 cattle.
- CTLX, Scone, Inverell and Gunnedah more than doubled their yarding’s for a total of 3,330, 1,499, 2,200 and 2,438 head, respectively and Armidale nearly halved its total at 698 cattle.
- Singleton penned similar numbers to total 840 head, with Casino slipping 3% at 2,334 cattle.
- Dubbo increased by 30% and penned 3,600 head, as Moss Vale lost 16% and totalled 1,365 cattle.
Prices remain firm to cheaper
Medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 5¢ cheaper, as prices averaged 294¢, with the best at 330¢/kg. The vealer heifers remained firm, making from 225¢ to 291¢/kg.
Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders sold close to firm, to average 313¢ to 317¢, as the best reached 339¢/kg.
The majority of the yearling heifers trended cheaper, however the ideal weighted pens to the lot feeders sold firm, for an average of 283¢ to 290¢/kg. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers continue to sell well, with the best heavy weight yearling heifer reaching 345¢/kg.
Heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter trended dearer, with prices averaging from 306¢ to 315¢, while the heifer portion ranged from 230¢ to 321¢/kg.
Cows sold close to firm, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 205¢, with the 3 and 4 scores ranging from 180¢ to 275¢/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 288¢/kg.
