NSW weekly cattle summary

Numbers increase
Cattle consignments in NSW increased by 30%, week-on-week, for a total of 29,569 head, with the Monday markets resuming selling, after the previous public holiday.
- Wagga penned 5,305 cattle, as Tamworth and Forbes yarded 2,830 and 2,486 head, respectively.
- CTLX slipped by 28% for 2,325 head, while Scone eased 4% for a penning of 1,231 cattle.
- Inverell gained 18% for 1,700 head, as Gunnedah lifted 3% to total 3,610 cattle.
- Singleton increased by 3% to total 770 head, with Armidale reducing its numbers by 28% for 420 head.
- Casino eased by 18% for a total of 1,050 head, as Dubbo slipped by 19% to pen 6,100 cattle.
- Moss Vale penned 738 head, as Finley continued its fortnightly market and yarded 1,000 head.
Prices trend lower
Cheaper trends of 20¢ to 30¢/kg were evident throughout all categories. The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock, made from 225¢ to 323¢/kg. The equivalent weighted vealer heifers sold from 210¢ to 299¢/kg.
Medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders ranged from 210¢ to 327¢, with the heavier end averaging from 286¢ to 294¢/kg. The bulk of the unfinished medium weight yearling heifers to the lot feeders averaged around the 270¢ mark, with the best at 296¢/kg. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers trended cheaper; however the best still topped at 344¢/kg.
Heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter made from 232¢ to 300¢/kg. Cows continued the cheaper trends, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 181¢, with the better covered 3 and 4 score heavy weights making from 165¢ to 250¢/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 300¢/kg.
