Neutral to wetter than average rainfall outlook – BOM

The latest three month weather outlook, from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), indicates much of the country is expected to receive average to above average rainfall over the December to February period.
The BOM forecast for south-east Queensland, north-east NSW and southern WA suggests an above average chance of exceeding median rainfall over the next three months. However, the Pilbara, north-eastern WA and Cape York Peninsula are expected have a delayed start to the northern wet season.
The more neutral outlook is welcome news after the previous forecast’s drier outlook for the south-east. However, while the rainfall outlook is mostly positive, much of the country is still expected to have a hotter than average summer, particularly in central and western regions.
The BOM are forecasting the El Niño weather system to break down in 2016 and also highlight that only three of the past twenty-six El Niño events have been followed by another El Niño.
