Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Wagga increased 50% week-on-week, at 30,000 head, and quality improved across trade and heavy weight categories. The regular buying group was present, although not all export buyers operated and there was limited feeder and restocker buyer enquiry. Light weight 3 score Merino lambs were up 33¢ on 588¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs increased 9¢ and averaged 625¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs averaged 619¢, while extra heavy 4 score lambs eased 2¢ on 589¢/kg cwt.

Sheep throughput was 43% higher, at 10,000 head, and there was a greater percentage of heavy weights on offer. Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes jumped 42¢ on 391¢, while heavy weight 3 score crossbred ewes were up 15¢ and averaged 428¢/kg cwt.

At the close of Thursday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 5¢ higher on 559¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs were up 5¢ on 557¢, while light lambs increased 7¢ on 575¢/kg cwt. Trade lambs gained 3¢ on 598¢, while heavy lambs remained unchanged on 598¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator finished 3¢ dearer on 404¢/kg cwt.
