Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at Wagga saw a 25% decrease week-on-week, with 24,050 lambs offered. Not all of the usual buyers operated in the dearer market. There was a good run of trade weights penned and supplementary fed heavy weights were well-supplied. A notable supply of Merinos were on offer, however most were of lighter weights. Mutton numbers decreased 51%, to 5,450 head. Merinos were best represented and overall quality was good, with large drafts of heavy weights penned.

  • Light weight 3 score lambs were down 62¢ on 502¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score lambs increased 39¢ on 613¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score lambs were 50¢ higher on 611¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy 4 score lambs were up 43¢ on 600¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes increased 54¢ on 438¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score Merino wethers were up 39¢ on 477¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • Eastern states restocker lamb indicator increased 11¢ to 520¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs dropped 12¢ to 538¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were firm at 549¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were 9¢ higher on 593¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 11¢ to 593¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator increased 4¢ to finish on 393¢/kg cwt
