Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Wagga increased 4% week-on-week to 26,000 head. Secondary young lambs were well represented and quality across all categories was fair. Good quality lots of store lambs attracted restocker enquiry.

Sheep numbers fell 33% week-on-week, to 8,000 head, with prices easing across most categories.

  • Light weight score 2 young lambs to restockers were up 28¢ to 620¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight score 3 young lambs to slaughter averaged 557¢/kg cwt, up 25¢
  • Heavy weight score 3 young lambs to slaughter sold 15¢ higher averaging 559¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight score 2 Merino ewes gained 49¢ to 327¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:                                                                                       

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator gained 2¢ on 551¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs rallied 13¢ on 456¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs increased 3¢ on 506¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs climbed 2¢ on 515¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs gained 2¢ on 517¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator remained steady on 326¢/kg cwt
