Lamb throughput at Wagga declined 8% week-on-week, to 32,200 head, and there was a reasonable selection of well-finished trade and heavy weight lambs penned, along with large numbers of plainer lambs throughout the yarding. All the usual buyers operated, with solid demand across the trade weight category, while demand for heavy lambs eased. Light weight 3 score lambs slipped 9¢ to 578¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs were back 35¢ and averaged 574¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs lost 68¢ on 561¢, while extra heavy 4 score lambs decreased 43¢ on 557¢/kg cwt.
Sheep consignments were similar to last week’s levels, at 11,100 head, and quality was generally good, with Merinos dominating the offering. Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were down 44¢ on 384¢, while heavy weight 4 score crossbred ewes lifted 21¢ and averaged 379¢/kg cwt.
At the close of Thursday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 3¢ higher on 492¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs lifted 10¢ on 538¢, while light lambs fell 4¢ on 546¢/kg cwt. Trade lambs eased 2¢ on 578¢, while heavy lambs lost 10¢ on 573¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator remained unchanged on 392¢/kg cwt.
