Lamb consignments at Wagga were 17% higher week-on-week, at 35,000 head, and quality was very good across trade and heavy weight categories. There was a reasonable selection of trade weights on offer, with well-finished lines keenly sought after, while plainer quality lambs also attracted strong processor demand. Light weight 3 score Merino lambs were back 39¢ on 549¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs were back 16¢ on 609¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs slipped 4¢ on 615¢, and extra heavy 4 score lambs lifted 11¢ and averaged 600¢/kg cwt.
Sheep throughput increased 10%, to 11,000 head, and heavy weight sheep were well-supplied. Medium 2 score Merino ewes were 39¢ lower and averaged 353¢/kg cwt.
At the close of Thursday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was down 14¢ on 552¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs fell 8¢ on 539¢, while light lambs eased 1¢ on 563¢/kg cwt. Trade lambs declined 5¢ on 597¢, while heavy lambs gained 2¢ on 604¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator was 3¢ lower and finished on 398¢/kg cwt.
