Friday daily cattle summary

Throughput at Roma Prime increased 18%, to 1,755 head. Cows dominated the yarding and all the regular export processor buyers operated in a mostly dearer market.
- Heavy C4 grown steers improved 8¢, averaging 265¢/kg
- Medium D4 grown heifers gained 12¢, to average 257¢/kg
- Medium D3 cows were firm, at 213¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows gained 2¢, to average 234¢/kg
Dubbo yarded 2,520 head, back 31% week-on-week. Finished cattle were limited, with larger runs of plainer cattle in from the far west, however prices mostly improved. EYCI eligible cattle saw strong gains, lifting an average 25.50¢/kg cwt, to finish the day at 584.03¢/kg cwt – one of the dearest markets down the east coast.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers improved 5¢, to average 318¢ and sell to 328¢/kg
- Heavy C3 yearling heifers to the trade jumped 21¢, averaging 307¢
- Light C2 grown steers to feeder buyers sold from 270¢ to 312¢, to average 299¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows improved 9¢, averaging 246¢/kg
Consignments at Bairnsdale declined 24%, to 641 head, and the full field of buyers competed in a dearer market. Quality was mixed, with most prime cattle showing the effects of winter.
- Heavy D3 grown steers averaged 308¢, up 11¢/kg week-on-week
- Heavy D4 cows jumped 19¢, to average 253¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) finished at 541.00¢, up 2.50¢/kg cwt on the previous day
- Trade steers averaged 312¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers made 301¢, up 3¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers slipped 5¢, to 282¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers averaged 296¢, back 2¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows made 219¢, steady
