Friday daily cattle summary

Consignments at Roma Prime declined 33%, to 800 head, and, with quality fair to good, prices lifted across the board.
- Heavy C4 grown steers jumped 14¢, averaging 282¢/kg
- Medium weight (540kg+) D4 grown heifers improved 2¢, to average 259¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows also gained 2¢, averaging 245¢/kg
- Heavy C3 bulls climbed 28¢, to average 283¢/kg
Throughput at Dubbo increased 17%, to 6,060 head. A large portion of the yarding came off crop but there was still a fair percentage of western cattle lacking finish. Price trends varied throughout the sale of young cattle and export lines mostly eased.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers improved 7¢, averaging 316¢/kg
- Heavy C3 yearling steers and heifers to slaughter eased 10¢ and 13¢, respectively, to average 326¢ and 307¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers eased 7¢, averaging 331¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows slipped 14¢, averaging 254¢/kg
Supplies at Bairnsdale were steady, at 600 head, but not all buyers were fully operating and prices mostly eased. Quality was fairly plain with limited numbers of prime cattle on offer.
- Heavy C3 vealer heifers to the trade jumped 17¢, averaging 347¢/kg
- Heavy D3 yearling heifers eased 8¢, averaging 308¢/kg
- Heavy D3 grown steers slipped 22¢, averaging 311¢/kg
- Medium D1 beef cows lost 19¢, to average 213¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 568.25¢/kg cwt, steady on where if finished the previous day
- Trade steers averaged 322¢, back 2¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers averaged 313¢/kg lwt, steady
- Medium steers averaged 308¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers averaged 319¢, back 1¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows averaged 233¢, back 1¢/kg lwt
